چکیده

We provide a systematization of approaches to accountability that have been taken in computer-science research. Toward this end, we categorize these approaches along the axes of time, information, and action; within each of these axes, we identify multiple questions of interest. Different researchers have (explicitly or implicitly) used “accountability” to mean different things. Our systematization contributes an articulation of the definitions that have been used in computer science (sometimes only implicitly); it also contributes a perspective on how these different approaches

Peer-reviewed forensic consultation in practice: multidisciplinary oversight in common expertise.

The fallibility of forensic science consultation is an ongoing and major justice concern. Prospective peer-reviewed forensic consultation has over 10 years of application in American criminal and civil courts, adapting from the traditional oversight of teaching hospitals, rules of evidence and discovery, conventions of testimony of expert witnesses, and attorneys' overall trial strategy. In sys...

Information Accountability with Policy Languages for e-Health

ICT is becoming a prominent part of healthcare delivery but brings with it information privacy concerns for patients and competing concerns by caregivers. A proper balance between these must be established in order to fully utilise ICT capabilities in healthcare. Information accountability is a fairly new concept to computer science which focuses on fair use of information. In this paper we inv...

Towards a Unified Model of Accountability Infrastructures

Accountability aims to provide explanations for why unwanted situations occurred, thus providing means to assign responsibility and liability. As such, accountability has slightly different meanings across the sciences. In computer science, our focus is on providing explanations for technical systems, in particular if they interact with their physical environment using sensors and actuators and...

A Multi-Modal Framework for Achieving Accountability in Multi-Agent Systems

We present a multi-modal, model-theoretic framework for achieving accountability in multi-agent systems through formal proof. Our framework provides modalities for knowledge, provability, and time. With these modalities, we formalise the two main aspects of accountability, which are: soundness (accountability proper), i.e., for correct agents, the provability of their correctness by themselves;...

13 The philosophy of science divides, roughly, into two schools. Confirmation 14 theorists seek to explicate the concept of empirical justification a priori by 15 systematizing intuitive reactions to various historical episodes and case 16 studies. Epistemological naturalists view scientific practice as an empirical 17 subject in its own right and seek to determine by empirical means which sort...
